Abstract: Feast your eyes on a selection of 10 byte-sized cartoons from Emmy Award-winning animation studio Titmouse’s infamous 5 Second Day 2020 Edition screening. If you don’t know about Titmouse’s 5 Second Day, it’s a longstanding tradition - a day when the studio closes so staff can make whatever project is swimming around in their heads. 5 Second Day came about as a way to make cartoons that we can all enjoy, but the tradition has evolved since it first began in 2008. Since then, the complexity, length, and creative collaboration across departments has skyrocketed. Some artists will work on ambitious ideas for months. In the end, the artists retain control of the short. To date more than 1,000 5 Second Day cartoons have been created.

Speaker(s) Bio:
Otto Tang is a director and art director at Titmouse, based in LA. Originally a background painter for Metalocalypse, he has grown in his artistic responsibilities at Titmouse and directed title sequences for the feature documentaries Sunset Strip and Jaco. He was the art director on Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja (Disney XD), and Big Mouth (Netflix). He had recently produced the music video, Don't Cry for Canadian singer songwriter MorMor. His 5 Second Day short, By the Stream was an official selection at Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

An animation director at Titmouse Canada, Ashley Jin-Kim makes cartoons with a pool of talented, hard-working folk. Avid bonsai and bird enthusiast, Ashley collects seeds everywhere she travels and carries her sunflower seeds for small birds.

Brian Muelhaupt started at Titmouse's NY studio in 2012, animating on Superjail! For the past eight years he has worked as an animation director, storyboard supervisor and animator on a wide variety of shows including Harriet The Spy, Star Wars: Galaxy Of Adventures and Hanazuki: Full Of Treasures. He is currently the supervising director on a new production. It's Bloobie! is his seventh 5 Second Day film.

Jacob Ospa is an animation artist living in New York. Beginning at Titmouse as an animator on Superjail! season 2, he has since then assumed a variety of different roles throughout production on more projects than he can remember. Some that he can remember are that he was an animator on Metalocalypse and China, Il. (adult swim), and Niko and the Sword of Light (Amazon). He was also the character layout supervisor on Ballmastrz: 9009 (adult swim). He was a character designer and is currently a storyboard supervisor on an upcoming show.

Allison Craig is a director and animator for Titmouse. She attended the Columbus College of Art and Design, focusing on traditional animation and from there, got her first animation job at Soup2Nuts based out of Boston, working primarily on children's television for PBS among other projects. Later, she moved to Los Angeles where she began working with Titmouse for clients such as Disney, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon. She was an animation director on Home with Tip and Oh (Netflix), storyboarded on Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart (Cartoon Network) and directed on Hanazuki: Full of Treasures (Hasbro). Her short film, Barko won several film festival awards.

Gary Ye thinks internet horror is what is best in life. He has worked in a variety of roles including background design, compositing and storyboarding. Outside of production work, he is sometimes a short film maker, including the Vimeo Staff Pick, “COYANUSCOCKSEE,” and recently “A GOD’s PURPOSE.” His shorts have screened at festivals around the world, including at SXSW, Annecy and Titmouse's 5 Second Day. He occasionally creates shorts for clients, including this Rick and Morty adult swim bumper. In the past year, he has worked on storyboards for Star Trek: Lower Decks, the opening of Last Kids on Earth, and the music video Robbed by Manila Luzon featuring Latrice Royale. Currently, he's the Supervising Director on Devil May Care at Titmouse, where he works with very talented people who may have different opinions on internet horror.
