Abstract: In this “1 on 1” talk, Mr. P. Jayakumar, CEO of Toonz Media Group, shares his insights on trends and opportunities for Indian animation creators, producers, and distributors, within India as well as other Asian and Western markets. He will break down the main segments of India’s animation industry, both within Asia as well as the West, focusing on where money and creative capital is being successfully invested today and where smart producers are focusing over the next 3-5 years. He will also focus on creative trends and challenges across feature films, episodic broadcast TV, and streaming. For almost 20 years, Mr. Jayakumar has led one of Asia’s largest and most successful creative studios, Toonz Media Group, which continues to expand internationally with recent equity stakes in Irish animation studio Telegael as well as Spanish animation studio Imira. Toonz has extensive operations in 2D and 3D animated series and feature film production, TV and feature film VFX, as well as games, AR/VR and other immersive entertainment. He is uniquely experienced both in production and distribution of animated entertainment in India, as well as in production, distribution, and licensing of Indian animated IP in international markets. Toonz is involved in international co-productions and distribution deals on shows for many leading studios including Walt Disney, Marvel Studios, Paramount Pictures, Universal Studio's, Lions Gate, Hallmark, BBC, Sony Entertainment and Cartoon Network. Mr. Jayakumar is a member of the prestigious International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He has also been the jury member at the elite Emmy Award panel. Besides this, Mr. Jayakumar also holds several important roles in government and quasi-government agencies, institutions, and trade bodies in India. He is a member of the National Committee on Media and Entertainment of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) as well as the Entertainment Committee of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), both leading confederations of business organizations in India. He is also the president of Society of AVGC Institutions in Kerala (SAIK) and a member of the Governing Council of Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC).
